I think Mike Schramm’s comments are pretty well said, but, a tad nit-pickey. I do disagree with Tate’s apparent DRM stance, DRM just doesn’t do the job. People don’t not pirate things because you make them (see Spore’s Claim to DRM fame), people don’t pirate things because they’re honest at heart. Back to the OP, it’s just frustrating reading stuff like this, about politicians talking well above their experience level technologically. When I see that I have more of an understanding of the current tech than the person in charge of it nationally, I just get scared.
